ANDREA: Scalable Command-and-control of Distributed Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
ANDREA is a command-and-control service architecture for very large, distributed applications. Commandand-control systems are appealing because they apply directed action, a strategy familiar in the form of imperative programming. Tenability for this approach at very large scales, however, requires that controllers relax their system-state-knowledge. ANDREA supports this requirement with Site-Select Command and Intention Council; efficient distributed mechanisms enhancing programmable command-and-control. The resulting architecture supports controlled emergence, a ‘middle-ground’ between imperative control and emergent group behavior.

To use services transparently in a distributed environment, the Utility Grids develop a cyber-infrastructure. The parameters of the Quality of Service such as the allocation-cost and makespan have to be dealt with in order to schedule workflow application tasks in the Utility Grids. Optimization of both target parameters above is a challenge in a distributed environment and may conflict one an...

Peer-to-peer applications (P2P) are no longer limited to home users, and start being accepted in academic and corporate environments. While file sharing and instant messaging applications are the most traditional examples, they are no longer the only ones benefiting from the potential advantages of P2P networks. For example, network file storage, data transmission, distributed computing, and co...

Broadcast (multicast) authentication is crucial for large and distributed systems such as cyber-physical infrastructures (e.g., power-grid/smart-grid) and wireless networks (e.g., inter-vehicle networks, military ad-hoc networks). These timecritical systems require real-time authentication of command and control messages in a highly efficient, secure and scalable manner. However, existing solut...
